Wart Treatment

Warts are common skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear on various parts of the body and are typically harmless, although they can be bothersome or cosmetically undesirable. There are several different types of warts, including common warts (verruca vulgaris), which usually develop on the hands and fingers and have a rough, raised surface. Plantar warts form on the soles of the feet and can be painful when walking due to the pressure applied. Flat warts are small, smooth, and often found on the face, neck, and hands. Genital warts (condyloma acuminata) are sexually transmitted and appear in the genital and anal regions. Treatment options for warts vary and may include over-the-counter topical treatments containing salicylic acid, cryotherapy (freezing), laser therapy, and surgical removal. In some cases, healthcare professionals may prescribe prescription-strength topical medications or other treatments, depending on the type, location, and size of the warts. Warts can be stubborn and may require multiple treatments for complete resolution. Avoiding direct contact with warts can help prevent their spread.
