Restylane® and Perlane® are very popular cosmetic dermal fillers, useful for treating folds and wrinkles in the face. In particular, these fillers are very effective for dealing with nasolabial folds, which extend from your nose to the edges of your mouth. Like other fillers, they can restore volume that your skin has lost and offer a non-surgical way to regain a youthful look.

About Restylane and Perlane

Both Restylane and Perlane are synthetic gels made from hyaluronic acid,  a substance found naturally in the human body. Hyaluronic acid and collagen work together to provide support to your skin while also helping it maintain its smoothness. The hyaluronic acid that is used in these fillers is slightly modified to provide long-lasting results. Perlane has larger particles when compared to Restylane and is, as a result, more appropriate for dealing with deeper folds. The FDA has recently approved Restylane-L and Perlane-L, which are fillers of a higher level. They contain lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. This ensures that you receive the exact same results as Restylane and Perlane but with considerably less discomfort.

After the Treatment

Restylane or Perlane will be injected into the areas of your face in need of treatment. After the treatment, results will be apparent immediately and will typically last for a duration of six months or more. Your age, skin quality and other factors will determine the longevity of the effects. After the treatment, you will experience discomfort in the form of tenderness, bruising, redness, pain, and/or swelling for about a week. It is essential to not rub or massage your skin for at least 48 hours post-treatment. You should also try to minimize exposure to extreme temperatures during this time.
