menMore and more men are turning to cosmetic treatments to fight the signs of aging and enhance their appearance. In 2013, more than 1.2 million men in the United States chose to undergo at least one kind of cosmetic procedure, according to a comprehensive study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. That number is up 22 percent in the last 13 years. The latest cosmetic procedures provide clients with a refreshed appearance, without looking “over done”. Here is a look at some of the procedures that are popular among male patients.

  • Liposuction: Liposuction can help men achieve a slim and toned look by removing areas of stubborn fat, such as in the abdomen, chest and flanks (“love handles”). Tumescent liposuction uses a small tube, know as a cannula, to suction out fat. This technique is minimally invasive and helps to reduce the scarring, blood loss and recovery typically associated with traditional liposuction.
  • Dermal fillers: Injectable fillers such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Radiesse® and JUVÉDERM® are a very popular choice for men who wish to correct and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. These treatments are convenient, as they take only minutes to perform and require no downtime. Though results vary, many patients enjoy a more youthful appearance for four months up to a year depending on their treatment.
  • Chemical peels: A chemical peel improves the overall appearance of skin by removing the top layers damaged by the sun and aging. These peels offer a non-invasive approach to skin rejuvenation, and provide a gentler alternative to a facelift. There are three types of chemical peels used on male patients, depending on the area to be treated. Some of the most common areas for chemical peels are the face, hands, chest and neck.
