Tumescent liposuction is a procedure designed to help you get rid of those stubborn pockets of fat on your hips, thighs, abdomen, buttocks or other parts of your body. It is performed as an outpatient procedure and can leave patients with an attractively shaped and contoured body. Though not a weight loss treatment, tumescent liposuction is perfect for anyone in good health with unwanted, stubborn fat deposits on the body.

What You Need to Know about Tumescent Liposuction

The procedure: Tumescent liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical method that does not require general anesthesia. Under a local anesthesia, several small incisions will be made through which fat can be sucked out using a cannula, which is a thin tube. The incisions are so small that they do not even require stitches, as your body will heal them naturally.

Recovery: After the procedure, your doctor will give you instructions that will help you to care for your body. You may experience some problems during the recovery period. These include some discomfort in the area treated including bruising and swelling. Until the healing is complete, you will have to use elastic bandages and/or compression clothing. Within a few days, you should be able to go back to your regular work and other activities. The results will not be apparent immediately, and you have to wait for the bruising and/or swelling to subside. You’ll be able to see an improvement with each week that passes by.

It is up to you to ensure that the results last forever. A proper diet and exercise regimen may be needed. If you do not follow them, you may again gain a considerable amount of weight and require another round of the procedure.
